The Wedding Date

The Wedding Date - Jasmine Guillory It was like cotton candy. Or donuts with sprinkles, more aptly. These main characters were sweet, do-gooders who smiled at each other all the time. They had respect and mainly suffered from doubts from the birth of their relationship. They were adorable and light, and dedicated to their jobs. It was a fun, breezy, sexy read.

My major issues aren't with the self-doubt or insecurities of the characters, but with the character development itself. It was basically only through their interactions with each other. We knew a little about Alexa's backstory from her passionate project to help at-risk teens. I knew incredibly little of Drew. Alexa had a bit more depth, but Drew felt a smidgen like a cardboard cutout of a great guy who gets irritable when he's insecure. I am not sure siblings, parents, or any other background was ever discussed. (Or if it was, it didn't stick with me). The development of their relationship was just that they were just so happy to be together.

I understand this is reading a little negative. Overall, it's not. I wanted more depth to the characters and maybe more to their relationship, but it was a lovely story. It just lacked a little of the meat. Like cotton candy or donuts with sprinkles. I look forward to more from this author!
