WELP, that was fun. DNF at 24%
Mostly because Cath has no redeeming qualities for me to relate to. I just plain didn't like her.
See, she pulled the hero from a burning car. Then felt relieved and guilty about it. Then she focuses on her mistakes 7 years ago. Then she feels relieved and guilty, but wants to hide her past from her daughter, or oh noes, her daughter will find out she was the victim of a school teacher pedophile who she was in love with. (Her daughter is 5 and SO SMART. I know a many precocious kids, including incredibly mature and "aware" ones. 5 is not the age at which they are upset about you being the victim of a pedophile, nor is it the age you understand one night stands with drug dealers. They, uh, don't have that capacity to understand that yet...I mean, c'mon. Cath is worried about her daughter getting made fun of. I just..what?)
Oh, and she leads her best friend on like a pup. I mean I'm in my mid-20s, in a small town and there's a guy I can not only count on but I call my best friend? Sounds like a catch. Instead, Cath is relieved when he's not serious with women b/c he can still focus on her. But you know, not like, in that way. Because she'll never want him that way...
Cue the getting obsessed with the hockey player you saved. I thought she wouldn't figure it for a while based on the blurb of this book, but no, she knows quite quickly post-accident. Then she proceeds to get all hot for him from afar. At 24% he showed up, and I just didn't care anymore.
But it looks like this may be a case of the "maybe it's just me." bleh, that heroine.
