Dating You / Hating You

Dating You / Hating You - Christina Lauren 3.5: It is no secret I'm a fan of this duo. I loved reading this one too. I thought it had a bit more maturity than their prior books-considering I'm nearly 40 and love office pranks, I was completely fine with their antics. I'm a grown up but only kind of.

The second half really shines, but I had a weird feeling that the sexist subplot was undermined by the conclusion of that storyline - that's all I can say without spoilers...(-1)

Despite that, I enjoyed watching Carter come to understand his privilege and thought that was well done and realistic. Their resentment and reluctance while competing was also well done.

The MCs have delightful friendships and dear lord I adore a hero who doesn't fear settling down or hesitate to do so. There was no "how will I resist a bevy of ladies or give up so much pu$$y for just this one?" Similarly, there wasn't that concern on the other side, since she was married to her job and all. Evie was briefly concerned she was too old for Carter, a minor issue, typical in her way of making excuses for not dating. (She's "picky")
The other half star subtraction is because I only got Evie's ambition for a good portion of the book. I felt like I knew her more from Carter's POV than her own. It was odd, but other than ambition I just didn't get her for quite a while.

If CL hadn't taken on a major issue facing working women, this might have been scored higher, and I appreciate their efforts. Feels odd to downgrade a book that departs from their norm where if it didn't it might have just been a regular old 4 or 5 fun and steamy read for me.
